Born in India, Amrit Rai is a contemporary painter whose practice investigates the threshold between the visible and the invisible, exploring the relationship of form to the formless dimensions of being. The spiritual and geographical landscape of India, together with its ritual engagement with color and textiles, continues to inform her nuanced understanding of color as both material and felt presence.
Educated at the Art Students League and Parsons School of Design in New York and the Academy of Art College in San Francisco, Rai brings to painting a lifelong engagement with movement shaped by dance.
